Hypnotherapy has a long and well checked history in modern medicine. Recently, it has been gaining more interest among neuroscientist who are concerned with finding more about the power of the subconscious and specifically studied those who have been through clinical hypnosis to treat stress and anxiety. Those studied showed that people who were susceptible to hypnotic suggestion show profound changes in how they process information after a hypnotic induction. New experiments using brain imaging showed that people whom were hypnotized were able to see colors where there were none present.

Hypnosis has a long History with Medicine

Did you know that hypnosis has been recognized as a medical treatment since 1950? Hypnosis was first used to treat and control pain. Soon people began to treat anxiety and today it is even used to treat irritable bowel syndrome and eating disorders. Even as early as the 1800’s there is record of Physicians like Dr. Franz Mesmer who used hypnotherapy with his patients to cure their ailments.

Why is Hypnosis so effective in causing positive changes?

Hypnosis is effective in providing clinical relief for anxiety and other things because it works with the subconscious mind where decisions are made. Princeton describes the subconscious mind as ‘psychic activity just below the level of awareness’ Some psychologist like Pierre Janet have argued that the subconscious mind is just beneath the layers of critical thought and governs the way the mind functions. Regardless of what you may have been taught, your problems with anxiety are because of behaviors you have learned over time. These negative thought processes can be controlled by your subconscious mind. Hypnotherapy allows you to be in a relaxed an aware state where your subconscious mind is more receptive to changing negative behaviors.
